How to choose a suitable heavy-duty AC motor

Load requirements:
Load type:
Constant load: If the load remains basically unchanged, such as for driving water pumps, fans and other equipment, ordinary squirrel cage asynchronous heavy-duty AC motors can often meet the needs. This motor has a simple structure, reliable operation, low maintenance cost, and can operate for a long time under stable load.
Frequent start and stop or forward and reverse load: For equipment such as cranes and elevators that require frequent start and stop or forward and reverse rotation, motors with higher starting torque and better overload capacity, such as wound asynchronous motors, should be selected. It can adjust the starting torque by connecting a resistor in series in the rotor circuit to adapt to the working requirements of frequent start and stop and forward and reverse rotation.
Impact load: If the load has a large impact, such as crushers, punching machines and other equipment, it is necessary to select a heavy-duty AC motor that can withstand a large impact load. This motor usually has a more solid mechanical structure and stronger electrical performance to cope with instantaneous large currents and impact forces.
Load power: Accurately calculating the power required by the load is the key to choosing a suitable motor. Generally speaking, the rated power of the motor should be slightly greater than the actual power of the load to ensure that the motor can drive the load normally and will not be damaged by overload. At the same time, the starting power of the load should also be considered. For loads with large starting power, a motor with large starting torque needs to be selected.
Speed requirements:
Fixed speed requirements: If the equipment has fixed requirements for speed, a motor with a rated speed that matches the speed required by the equipment should be selected. For example, some large compressors, fans and other equipment need to run at a specific speed. At this time, a heavy-duty AC motor with a corresponding speed should be selected according to the requirements of the equipment.
Speed regulation requirements: If the speed of the motor needs to be adjusted, a variable frequency speed regulation motor or a special motor with speed regulation function can be selected. The variable frequency speed regulation motor can achieve continuous speed regulation by changing the power supply frequency. It has the advantages of a wide speed regulation range, high speed regulation accuracy, and good energy saving effect. It is suitable for occasions with high speed regulation requirements, such as rolling mills, papermaking machines, etc.1.
Working environment:
Temperature: If the working environment temperature is high, a high temperature resistant motor should be selected, or additional heat dissipation measures should be taken, such as adding a cooling fan, installing a radiator, etc. At the same time, the insulation performance and service life of the motor in a high temperature environment should also be considered.
Humidity: In a humid environment, a motor with good moisture resistance should be selected, such as a closed motor with a high protection level or a waterproof motor. Otherwise, the motor is prone to moisture and rust, affecting its normal operation and service life.
Dust and corrosive gases: If there is a lot of dust, powder or corrosive gases in the working environment, a motor with a high protection level and good sealing should be selected to prevent dust and corrosive gases from entering the motor and damaging the electrical components and mechanical structure of the motor. For example, in industries such as mining and chemical industry, explosion-proof or corrosion-resistant heavy-duty AC motors are usually required.
Power supply conditions:
Voltage: Select the appropriate motor voltage level according to the power supply voltage in the workplace. Generally speaking, the commonly used voltage levels in industrial sites are 380V, 660V, 1000V, etc. If the power supply voltage is unstable, you should also consider choosing a motor with a wide voltage adaptation range or equipping it with a voltage stabilizing device.
Frequency: The industrial power frequency in my country is 50Hz. If there are special frequency requirements, such as in some export equipment, a 60Hz motor may be required, which should be selected according to actual needs.
Energy efficiency level: Selecting a heavy-duty AC motor with a high energy efficiency level can reduce energy consumption and reduce operating costs. When choosing a motor, you should check the motor's energy efficiency label and choose a product with a higher energy efficiency rating. At the same time, you should also consider the motor's efficiency curve and the efficiency performance at different load rates to ensure that the motor can maintain a high energy efficiency level in actual operation.
Brand and quality:
Brand reputation: Choose a heavy-duty AC motor from a well-known brand, and the quality is more guaranteed. Well-known brand motor manufacturers usually have more advanced production technology, strict quality control system and perfect after-sales service, which can provide users with better products and technical support.
Quality certification: Check whether the motor has relevant quality certifications, such as ISO 9001 quality management system certification, CCC certification, etc. These certifications are important guarantees of motor quality and can help users choose products that meet quality standards.
Budget: Choose a suitable heavy-duty AC motor based on the budget of the project. On the premise of ensuring the performance and quality of the motor, you can choose a cost-effective product. But don't just pursue low prices and ignore the quality and performance of the motor, otherwise it may lead to increased maintenance costs and equipment failures in the later stage.
