The consequences of high starting frequency of DC motors

Mar 21, 2024 Leave a message

There is a regulation in the instructions for using DC motors, which is that their starting frequency cannot be too high. Once it is too high, it will affect many aspects, and the stable operation of the motor cannot be guaranteed. After reading the following content, you will understand the reasons for this requirement.
When the DC motor is just starting. Its speed is zero, so during the starting process, the electromagnetic torque of the motor not only needs to overcome the load resistance torque, but also the inertia masking of the rotating part. In this case, the load on the motor is very heavy. If the starting frequency of a DC motor is too high, the speed of the rotor cannot maintain consistency with the speed of the stator magnetic field rotation. Therefore, the distance between the rotor and the balance position becomes larger and larger, and ultimately it will be unable to start due to loss of step or oscillation.
In order to start the DC motor normally, the starting frequency should not be too high. The frequency should be gradually increased after the motor starts, in order to protect the DC motor and extend its service life.
